I was looking for my DDO discs so I could load up the game and try the new free-to-play option from Turbine. As I was doing so, I came across these CDs on my shelves for games I played but no longer exist.

Here we have Asheron’s Call 2. Anyone remember this? I do. The end-of-beta event was awesome. But the “arrows that go on forever” and other problems in beta and the released game were not. Anyway, I also remember the mobs being seriously borked resulting in me being able to level up my Tumerok and Lugian in record time when the game was released. It was a short-lived MMO, but it was fun while it lasted.

And here we have the first expansion for Star Wars Galaxies Online. What was it, less than a year, and the game completely changed after this expansion? This was the first MMO I was able to get many of my friends involved in. As the fantasy theme didn’t appeal to many of them. I realize the game isn’t dead, but the game no longer exists for those of us who went through beta and signed up on opening day.

So why am I still holding on to these things? Its not like they are going to be worth anything. But perhaps they are just like photographs that we take and they remind us of enjoyable past times.
