The patch notes for Game Update 13 for Star Wars Galaxies were posted yesterday and here are some of the highlights:
- A new questing system is being created, the Chronicles Master System. This system lets players create their own quests for other players to enjoy. When you log in you’ll receive the Chronicles Starter Kit and a window will pop up describing the new Chronicle Master System.
- The Vendor and Bazaar systems are being greatly enhanced. You will now be able to search by attribute. The price limit on the bazaar has been increased to 10 million credits. And the the price limit on vendors has been increased to 833.33 million credits.
- You will be able to store up to 3 billion credits per character in the Galactic Reserve banks (Mos Eisley, Theed and Coronet). You can withdraw up to 1 billion credits at a time from the Galactic Reserves.
Are you going to be creating quests? Is this a good idea? I remember in Everquest where for a brief one week period or so (until it was quickly pulled anyway) players could be a mob such as a bee or other critter that players would normally fight and you could then play this “smart npc” and attack the players. The only thing is there were no markings to indicate you were any different than any other bee or wasp. This was the funnest experience I ever had in Everquest and there was intense enjoyment from chasing the newbies around and then running away as they tried to hit you. It was quickly abused and pulled from the game and as far as I know never returned. Will player run quests turn out the same way?
I recently returned to SWG under the premise of consolidating my three accounts and to move my characters to a new server. And while I intended to do just that, I found that I had some goals to accomplish. You see, when I last played, I was a master Teras Kasi, Master Creature Handler, Master Doctor, etc, etc… as I grinded toward unlocking the Jedi profession.
When I returned I was a lowly level 58 Jedi who has much less power and dies much more frequently then my Master Teras Kasi. So he needed some buffs. With 3 accounts, I decided to make an entertainer, or two. The entertainer gives out the best buffs in the current Star Wars Galaxies. Before the New Game Edition (NGE), doctors gave out the best buffs, but things change…
So, I created a Twi’lek and did the Tansaril Station newbie tutorial until level 5. If you haven’t created a new character since before the NGE, I encourage you to do so and spend an hour going through the tutorial. Its really well done. When you leave Tansaril Station you will find yourself shuttled to Mos Eisley on Tatooine. If you skip the tutorial you’ll still end up in the same place and you’ll be level five. But you won’t have any money.
If you already have some money on another character then don’t take any missions just go to a cantina and start dancing. If you need some money to buy a swoop to get around faster then do enough missions to buy the swoop. Alternatively, just start dancing and put your expertise points into buffs and when you get to about level 30 you can start buffing players for tips or cover charge. Forget about buying or crafting any instruments. You won’t need them.
Lucky for you, the Cantina in Mos Eisley is just a few steps away. Turn on you overhead map (M key) and find your way to the cantina. You can actually do your grind anywhere, but being in a cantina will greatly increase the time that your buffs last. Once you are in the cantina you have some preparation to do. Namely we are going to create a macro to automate flourishes to save you from repetitive motion injuries. The reason we do flourishes is that it practically doubles your experience.
If you haven’t logged into Star Wars Galaxies in years (like I hadn’t done until recently), but still want to preserve your characters and items, you may want to log into Star Wars Galaxies within the next couple of weeks and get your characters moved to a higher population server. I mention it only because I’ve encountered difficulties getting one character on one of my three accounts transferred from Tarquinas to Bria. I’ve successfully transferred two characters on two other accounts but the character transfer server decided to die before I could transfer my third character. I’ve tried again following today’s patch addressing a character transfer issue, so hopefully the fourth attempt will work. I’ll know in about two hours.
If you are logging in for the first time in a long time you may find that your server is barren. If this is the case, its not necessarily because the game is dead, its simply because its likely one of the 13 galaxies being merged. So if your playing on one of these servers:
- Corbantis
- Europe-Infinity
- Intrepid
- Kauri
- Kettemoor
- Lowca
- Naritus
- Scylla
- Tarquinas
- Tempest
- Valcyn
- Wanderhome
You’ll want to pack your houses and harvesters and transfer to one of these:
- Ahazi
- Bloodfin
- Bria
- Chilastra
- Eclipse
- Europe-Chimaera
- Europe-FarStar
- Flurry
- Gorath
- Radiant
- Shadowfire
- Starsider
- Sunrunner
Hotfix 12.4 was pushed to servers today. This patch addressed an issue that caused character transfer to fail. It also addressed these issues with the trading card game:
- Reduced number of lots used by a hangar to 3
- Updated the decription on the Klorri-Clan Battle Shield and the Naboo Signal Unit to indicate that they are consumed when used
- Changed Armored Varactyl to use the correct saddle
Browsing the Star Wars Galaxies forums this morning dug up this news nugget. Through October 15th, if you get your buddies to play and then sign up for Star Wars Galaxies, they will get the “Holocron of Knowledge” allowing your buddy to be instantly raised to level 50. This can only be used once per account, and is non-tradeable. So have your friend hold onto it until you know for sure what character you want to use it on. Or use it to level up another character on a secondary account.
The buddy will also receive a “Buddy Token” that can be given to a veteran player. The veteran player can use the Buddy Token to /claim one of these miniature toys: Barc Speeder, A-Wing or a Basilisk. Or the veteran player can choose a light-bending Gasgano Podracer.
