The Asheron’s Call servers are being patched today and along with some miscellaneous changes and fixes you will find that:

• Two handed weapons are more readily available in all tiers of loot and Viamontian masters are offering training in the art of Two Handed Combat.
• Gearcrafting is being introduced. This allows you to craft trinkets which enhance health, stamina, mana, XP gain, damage and damage reduction.
• Eleven new augmentations will be introduced. These will:
  allow foci free casting
  increase magic, missile or melee skills by 10 points
  boost and mitigate damage
  increase critical hit frequency and multiplier
• Quest XP will now pass up from vassals to patrons to monarchs to encourage more questing
• A new companion for you if you are an active subscriber on November 2nd

On the 2nd of November, special events will take place all day to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the game and

Creatures from the past 10 years are suddenly going to appear all over Dereth. Asheron, Elysa, Borelean and others will need players help to contain this “invasion” from the past.

As Halloween approaches there are lots of events taking place in and around your favorite MMO.

Asheron’s Call is holding their AC-themed carved pumpkins event. Carve a pumpkin, take a digital picture and send it in. Four winners will be chosen. The top winner will receive an in-game title “Jack-o’-all Trades” and a pet pumpkin golem.

Champions Online Halloween event is titled “Blood Moon” and runs from October 27th through November 10th. Within this event you will see Celestial, the first new power set introduced, which is a support and healing based set. Saving 13 Undead Heroes will unlock the Celestial power set before anyone else. The set will be unlocked on November 10th for everyone else.

Seven new perks will be available:

1. In Memoriam for freeing all 13 Undead Hero Souls
2. Thrash of the Lich King for driving off Takofanes during the event
3. Silver Bullet for defeating 100 non-player Bloodmoon Werewolves
4. Bite Me for completing Wolfsbane and Leader of the Pack to earn a title and werewolf action figure
5. Leader of the Pack for defeating 100 Hunter Players as a Feral Warrior during the event
6. Wolfsbane for defeating 100 Feral Warrior Players as a Hunter during the event
7. Moonstruck for completing all of the other perks to earn a special action figure

Dungeons and Dragons Online is also having a Pumpkin Carving contest. Carve your pumpkin using a DDO theme and if you are selected as the lucky winner you’ll win 500 Turbine Points.

Fallen Earth is holding a costume contest through October 21st. They are accepting submissions for creative faction-inspired costumes. The top five submissions will receive a Fallen Earth t-shirt, messenger bag and a poster autographed by the development team.

Lord of the Rings Online is hosting a Pumpkin Carving Contest with the first prize winner receiving 1 million copper!

Sony Online Entertainment is hosting several Halloween events both in-game and on their various forums. Take part in everything from Candy Corn Mystery, Pumpkin Carving Forum Challenge and the Haunted Art Forum Challenge.

Asheron’s Call developers posted their plans for some new items for the 10th anniversary update. Being my favorite MMO of all time its great to see the developers still giving this game some love after all these years.

So here’s what we have learned:

• Four new “Infused” augmentations, one each for War, Life, Item, and Creature Magic that make it so you no longer need any Foci or component to use spells from those schools. Though you still require the consumable scarabs and tapers.
• Master of the Steel Circle and Master of the Four Fold Path augmentations increase melee and magic skills by 10, respectively.
• Frenzy of the Slayer gives the wearer a +3 damage rating for any melee, missile or magical attacks.
• Eye of the Remorseless increases critical hits by 1%.
• Iron Skin of the Invincible reduces damage by 3.

The bad news is that there will not be a way to remove current augmentations and restore the experience so you can choose these new ones. So if you are nearing the XP Cap for getting more augmentations you may have to wait until a later patch to get them.

Turbine pushed out the September update titled “Cogs in the Machine” on Friday. The lore reads in part:

In a roughly excavated cavern deep beneath the surface of northwestern Osteth, a Virindi ranked Master among the Apostate faction consulted with a group lower-ranked Servants who were bound to its will. The Master had received personal instructions from the shadowy Consul who directed the entire Apostate faction. It sat at the center of a circle of five Servants, turning to each to receive its report.

Release note highlights include:

• Festival Season is upon us. Masks and Guises and Pumpkins, oh my!

• The Arcanum is seeking to learn more about the mysterious clockwork soldiers.
• Also the next stage in the Thug quest will be available. Fiona will still be in her cage due to the problems this month.
• A Scholar has appeared in Eastham who is particularly interested some recent events.
• The monthly kill tasks are updated.
• The monthly Explorer Task has been updated.
• Monster Fights, The Carnezi Race, and Fiona should no longer have problems with locking up or starting.
• Anyone who was stuck on the Apostate Nexus Quest started by Ned the Clever by not being able to pick up the shard will be able to pick up the shard after talking to Ned again.
• The mansion that was having problems with basement access has been fixed.
